SME Football Mom’s Coffee:  Thursday, June 14, from 9-10:30am in the SME library.  Dad’s Grandparents, etc. are also welcome.   The Lancer Gridiron Club is hosting this event.  Plan to come and meet other parents, sign up for volunteer opportunities, preview spirit wear, meet the coaches, etc.  Special guests:  A panel of moms and former SME football players will answer your questions and discuss ways you can support your son in the game of football. 

7 on 7 League:  Thursday mornings 10am in June (June 7, 14, 21, 28) Must have physical to participate!
(In general…the 7-on-7 Passing League is a fun competitive, non-contact way to play football. It is all passing, played on a 40-yard field plus end zone, and allows scoring both on the offense and defense.)  If you need more information on whether your athlete should be participating, please have them contact their coach.

2012 Golf Tournament – June 11, 

Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual SME Lancer Football Golf Tournament.  Shotgun start at 12:30pm on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Brookridge Golf Course (103rd and Antioch in Overland Park).

Proceeds raised will help fund the following:
* SME Football Camp scholarships for all grades
* Summer camps and tournaments
* Team equipment: practice equipment, medical/first aid, training room, 7-on-7 uniforms, game day coats, coaches headsets, travel bags for players, repaired video camera, etc.
5th Quarter gatherings.

Please read below for important information regarding the Football Banquet, Equipment return, Letter Jackets and more…..

Football Banquet. November 20th at 4:00 pm in Main Gym. Banquet RSVP’s and payment were due today to Tammy Carter. Please contact Tammy immediately at carteracarte@aol.com if for some reason you have not sent in your RSVP but plan to attend.

All Sophomore and Junior players must be at SME Sunday at 10:00 am to help set up for the banquet. Parent helpers are needed also.

All Freshmen players must stay after the banquet to help with clean-up. Parent volunteers are needed to stay and help also.

Senior Helmets. All seniors need to bring their helmet to SME at 11:30 on Sunday so players can finish signing each other’s helmets. Paint pens will be provided. If a player cannot be at SME Sunday morning they should have someone else bring their helmet to the gym. Players who can’t come Sunday morning should plan to be at the Banquet by 3:45 to sign the helmets.

Equipment Return. Per Coach Sherman, players need to return their equipment Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday after school. Please launder all pants and jerseys before returning them!

SME Letter Jackets. If you are interested in ordering an SME letter jacket, you can do so at Nil Bros Sporting Goods at 119th & Metcalf or through Mark Harper at Game Time Sports. Mark Harper’s number is (913) 271-6060. Nil Bros usually has a limited number of SME jackets in stock. The jackets sold by Mark Harper are custom made and orders with Mark must be placed by Wednesday, November 23rd with delivery expected after New Year’s Day.

Forms:  All athletes need to complete the required SMSD Athletic Participation Packet, Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form, and the new District Concussion Release Form.  All three of these documents must be completed and turned in to Gayle O’Grady in the SMSD office prior to the first day of practice (8/15).

Senior Program:  The senior players chose “All In” as the theme for the upcoming season.  In a few weeks a questionnaire will be sent out to all seniors for their profile in the football program.  You will be asked to provide 3-4 pictures to be included in the program so start going through your old photos.

Spirit Wear:  We have some great new Spirit Wear that will be for sale at many events that kick off the start of the school year.  It will also be sold at all home games.

JOIN Lancer Gridiron Club and Support Your SME Football Teams!
The Lancer Gridiron Club was founded to support and promote the Shawnee Mission East football program and all high school Lancer football players and coaches.  Our organization is open to anyone in the community; parents, alumni, and businesses.  Our goal is to provide year-round support to ensure that the program is successful in creating a winning football environment for the players, coaches, students, parents, and fans in the SME community.If you haven’t done so already, please join the Lancer Gridiron Club ($50.00 individual or $100 family membership) and contributing to the Player Food Fund (Recommendation:  $180 for Sophomore, Junior, and Senior players).   Items covered by the player food fee may include the nutritious dinners prior to games, snacks and after-game food for away games and breakfast during Saturday morning film review throughout the season.   Since the Freshman teams have seperate team dinners, we recommend a donation of only $25 to help pay for the extras provided during the season.  Any amount you can contribute is appreciated and 100% of the donations benefit the team. Schedule August 15 is the first official practice of the season.  All players will be required to have a Physical and a completed Athletic Participation Packet on file with the SME Athletic Director in order to participate.
